January was an eventful month for Merrimack. Kicking off the new year and the Spring 2026 semester, the Warrior Nation was thriving. Some big updates were announced and some big events took place. This is a recap of some of the highlights that went down during the Month of January at Merrimack College.
Academic And Residence Buildings
- Merrimack’s brand new Lecture Hall space opened its doors for the beginning of the semester. The two-story building features five lecture halls and can house up to 700 students. The building is designed with more modern learning environments in mind as the student population continues to expand.
- The Lucey Center for Academic and Career Advising in McQuade Library began its first semester in full operation. This location is the go to spot for academic, financial, career or personal advising needs. The Mack Force Central desk is also a part of this space.
- Steady progress continued on the construction of Merrimack’s new Residence Halls. Essex and Shawsheen will feature a 12,600 square foot space including a fitness center and a pavilion for honors students. Both buildings will house up to 540 students and are on track to open for the 2026 Fall Semester.
Involvement, Clubs And Organizations
- Merrimack and the Orientation team gave a warm welcome to the newest Warriors on campus for the Spring Semester. The Orientation Committee is already hard at work planning for June’s Orientation to welcome the Class of 2030.
- The Office of Student Involvement hosted the Involvement Fair for the Spring Semester on January 16th. Fraternities, sororities, club sports teams, fine arts clubs and many more were in attendance.
- The Office of Intercultural Initiatives, Campus Ministry and the Unity House hosted the third annual MLK Jr. Day of Service after the event first started in 2024. In partnership with A Bed For Every Child (ABEC), a record breaking 110 students came together to build beds for families in need.
- The Black Student Association (BSA) held their Black History Month kickoff event on January 29th. Students repped their African American, African and Caribbean heritage and attended an affinity panel discussing excellence.
Sports
- The Men’s Basketball team advanced to the first place spot in the MAAC under the leadership of Joe Gallo. The team also hosted their Alumni Day on January 24th. The Warriors are currently 10 – 2 in the MAAC and 14 – 9 overall.
- Lydia Melaschenko and Madison Roman were both given the title of the MAAC’s Player of The Week for Women’s Basketball. The team is 8 – 4 in the MAAC and 11 – 10 overall.
- Men’s Hockey Coach Scott Borek achieved his 100th win this month as head coach of the Warriors, being the fifth coach in Merrimack history and the third in Division I to do so. Goalie Max Lundgren was also named to the 2026 Richter Award Watch List.
- Andreanna Doucette was named the Hockey East Goaltender of The Week for Women’s Hockey.
