While this season has not been the season of dreams for the Merrimack Women’s Hockey Team, they have recently had some substantial wins in the Hockey East Conference.
On Friday, January 16, 2026 they delivered a spectacular win in overtime against the nationally ranked UConn Huskies. Coming into the game the Huskies were ranked fifth in the nation, and in the top of Hockey East for the women’ teams. The Warriors came into the game at the very bottom of the conference and they were not nationally ranked either.
The first period of the game would be a scoreless period. The second period would be when UConn would get their only goal of the game. At the end of this period however, starting sophomore goalie, Adreanna Doucette would leave the game after thirty five saves. Freshman Lauren Lyons would take over the net for the third period, where Merrimack would score their first goal to tie the game. There would then be an overtime period in which senior forward Avery Anderson would score the winning goal.
Just one week later on January 23, 2026, the Warriors would go on to secure yet another Hockey Easy win. This time it would be over the University of Maine Black Bears and this game would be up in Orono, Maine. Once again Doucette would be in goal and maintain a scoreless first period. In the second junior defenseman Solveig Gisler would score the only goal of the second period for Merrimack. The second and final goal of the game would be scored by freshman forward Stina Sandberg. For UMaine this game would be scoreless.
Both of these games were large upsets for the Merrimack women, pulling through on some spectacular wins. Now the women will head on to a pair of weekend games, the first against the University of New Hampshire Wildcats, and the second against the Providence College Friars. Will they be able to pull through some more Hockey Easy Wins?
