As we get closer to the fall season, there are many fun things to look forward to at Merrimack. The Rogers Center for the Arts occasionally holds a variety of theatrical productions and art galleries that all students are welcome to attend. The Visual Performing Arts has posted a calendar of events with information regarding the occasions held this year. These are the following events the VPA department has in store for the fall semester:
Onstagers 24-Hour Play Festival
One fan-favorite theater event is the 24-hour play event. Teams are composed of a writer, a director, and a stage manager/technical director who all work together to write, cast, and put on a short play within 24 hours. Casting and crew will take on the challenge to rehearse and act out their given play the whole day. The composition will take place on Friday, October 4th, and Saturday, October 5th, in the main auditorium located in the Rogers Center.
Resa Blatman’s Artist Talk
Visual artist Resa Blatman has been working in media and showcasing her work in a variety of art pieces such as installations, paintings, and drawings. Her presented work will enhance her inspiration for poetry, science, and nature. She will talk more about ideas of humanity and its influences in unpredictable climates that are used in her artwork. This art exhibition will take place on Friday, October 18th, at 5 p.m. in the McCoy Gallery located in the Rogers Center.
VPA Presents “John Proctor is the Villain”
This year’s VPA show is John Proctor is the Villain. It follows a group of high school students who explore the connections between literature and life through the study of The Crucible and the #MeToo moment. They also navigate through personal issues involving friendships, power, and truth. The play will be performed from Thursday, October 24th, to Sunday, October 27th, in the main auditorium located in the Rogers Center.
Onstagers Presents “Twelfth Night”
This year’s fall production takes the Shakespearean classic Twelfth Night. It follows two twins named Viola and Sebastian who are separated in a shipwreck. Violas disguises herself as a man named Cesario and then becomes a servant to Duke Orsino that she falls in love with. Orsino sends Viola to woo the Countless Olivia, who is in love with Cesario. This play will be performed from Thursday, November 21st, to Saturday, November 23rd, in the main auditorium located in the Rogers Center.
“Science Fact vs. Science Fiction” Curated Student Exhibition
This year’s art exhibition is accepting submissions for artworks inspired by all scientific fields exploring the boundaries of known realities. The theme is set to reflect on science fiction in order to piece together a unique perspective of our world. All forms of art mediums are welcome for all artists to showcase their creative work. This art exhibition will take place on Friday, November 22nd, at 5:30 p.m. in the McCoy Gallery located in the Rogers Center.
Each one of these events is a great opportunity for students to attend and get more involved in the arts program.
