The Men’s Hockey Team took the home opener as the revenge game of all revenge games. After the loss to UMass Lowell on October 3, the Warriors were itching for revenge and boy did they get it. Unfortunately the game opening goal was scored early in the second period by Lowell, but that would only light the fire needed to get the Warriors in action. From the last minute of the second period, the Warriors would go on to score a whopping four unanswered goals. The first would be scored by freshman forward Justin Gill, his first collegiate goal and his first as a Warrior. He would be assisted by freshman defenseman Hunter Mayo and senior defenseman Matthew Campbell. At the start of the second period freshman forward Parker LaLonde would score his first collegiate goal and also his first as a Warrior. He would also be assisted by fellow freshman defenseman Ethan Byer and Justin Gill. Shortly after this there would come another buzzer heard around the rink, as sophomore forward Trevor Hoskin would score the third goal of the night for the Warriors. He would be assisted in this goal by Parker LaLonde and another freshman defenseman, Filip Nordberg. The final goal would be an empty netter from graduate student and forward, Mark Hillier, with an assist from junior goaltender Max Lundgreen and junior defenseman Seamus Powell.
This win is a very important one for the Warriors. This puts their record against UMass Lowell at an even 1-1, meaning that next game could be either team. The Warriors are hungry to prove themselves this season, with a large portion of the new roster being freshmen. Such a fresh team means a lot of work and a lot of chemistry that will need to be built. This win is a good one to have in the books, especially to show that the team can come back from behind. With such a substantial win however, it leaves fans to wonder, was this a one hit wonder or is the team hungry enough to fight and play this hard all season long? Only time will tell. Congratulations to the Warriors on a standout performance against the Riverhawks, and hopefully this momentum will be maintained throughout the season.
