This past March, the Premier Lacrosse League announced the six professional lacrosse players who will be inducted into the Professional Lacrosse Hall of Fame Class of 2023. The Class of 2023 is composed of three attackmen, one midfielder, one defenseman, and one goalie.
The three attackmen that were inducted into the Hall of Fame are Ryan Powell, Jesse Hubbard, and Ryan Boyle.
Ryan Powell started his professional career following a successful collegiate career at Syracuse University. He competed in Major League Lacrosse from 2001 to 2008. He was drafted into the MLL by the Rochester Rattlers in 2001 and played for them until 2005, when he was traded to the San Francisco Dragons. He played for the Dragons during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. He ended his final season in Major League Lacrosse in 2008 while playing for the Denver Outlaws. While he had a short career in Major League Lacrosse, he performed extremely well and earned many awards. While playing, he was named the 2001 and 2006 MLL MVP, the 2006 MLL Offensive Player of the Year, the 2008 MLL All Star Game MVP, the Rochester All Time Leading Scorer, and was a six-time MLL All Star. In his MLL career he scored 360 career points, which is 15th all-time. He had 189 career goals and 170 career assists, which is 10th all-time.
Jesse Hubbard started his professional career by graduating from Princeton University and competed in Major League Lacrosse from 2001 to 2009. He was drafted by the New Jersey Pride in 2001 and played for them until 2007, when he was traded to the Los Angeles Riptide. He played for the Riptide in the 2008 season and was traded to the Washington Bayhawks. Unfortunately, he was unable to play during the 2009 season with the Bayhawks due to a herniated disc and he later retired. While playing, he was the season goals leader in 2001, 2002, and 2003. He was the Major League Lacrosse all-time career goals leader from 2001 to 2005. He was also the Major League Lacrosse all-time single season goal leader from 2001 to 2020, when Major League Lacrosse merged with the Premier Lacrosse League. He was also a five-time MLL All Star during his professional career. In his MLL career he had 319 career points (23rd all-time), 225 career goals (19th all-time), 15 career 2-point goals (22nd all-time), and 79 career assists.
Ryan Boyle started his professional career following graduating from Princeton University and competed in Major League Lacrosse from 2004 to 2014. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Barrage in 2004, where he played for them until 2008. While playing for the Barrage, he was the 2004 MLL Rookie of the year and won the MLL Championship in 2004, 2006, and 2007. After being traded from the Barrage to the Boston Cannons in 2008, he continued to dominate. In 2011, he helped the Cannons win their first MLL Steinfeld Cup. He will retire from playing professional lacrosse in 2014. During his time in the MLL he was a six-time MLL All Star and was a four-time MLL Championship champion. In his MLL career, he scored 487 career points, 192 career goals, and 292 career assists (1st All-Time).
The one midfielder that was inducted into the Hall of Fame is Roy Colsey.
Roy Colsey started his professional career following graduating from Syracuse University and competed in Major League Lacrosse from 2001 to 2008. He was drafted in 2001 to the Bridgeport Barrage and played with them until 2003, when the team relocated to Philadelphia. From 2004 to 2008, he played for the Philadelphia Barrage, where he won three MLL Championships, in 2004, 2006, and 2007. He became the fifth All-Time 2 Point Goal Scorer with 32 career 2-point goals while in Major League Lacrosse. In his Major League Lacrosse career, he scored 82 career points, 167 career goals, and 65 career assists.
The one defenseman that was inducted into the Hall of Fame is Brian Spallina.
Brian Spallina started his professional career following graduating from Hofstra University and competed in Major League Lacrosse from 2001 to 2015. He was drafted in 2001 to the Long Island Lizards and played with them for the 2001 and 2002 seasons. He then played for the Philadelphia Barrage from 2004 to 2008. From 2009 to 2011, he played again for the Long Island Lizards until he was traded to the Chesapeake Bayhawks. He played for the Bayhawks from 2012 to 2014 and in 2015, he completed his final season with the New York Lizards in 2015, who were originally the Long Island Lizard until they changed their name in 2013. During his time in the MLL he was a two-time MLL All Star and seven-time MLL Champion. In his Major League Lacrosse career, he scored 181 games played (3rd all time), 221.5 penalty minutes (1st all time), and 187 career ground balls.
The one goalie that was inducted into the Hall of Fame is Greg Cattrano.
Greg Cattrano started his professional career following graduating from Brown University and competed in Major League Lacrosse from 2001 to 2006. He was drafted in 2001 to the Baltimore Bayhawks and played with them from 2001 to 2003, where he won the 2002 MLL Championship and was named the 2002 MLL MVP. He then played for the Philadelphia Barrage during the 2004 season, where he won the 2004 MLL Championship. He concluded his career with the Long Island Lizards, where he played for them during the 2005 and 2006 seasons. During his time in the MLL he was a four-time MLL All Star and two-time MLL Champion. In his Major League Lacrosse career, he had 799 career saves and 10.6 goals against average (GAA).
The six newest Pro Lacrosse Hall of Fame were honored with a Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Baltimore, Maryland during the Premier Lacrosse League August 4th-6th weekend games.
