Merrimack Delivers a Monster Win Over Stonehill

Heather Mixter

Warrior Ice Arena in Boston was the site of a powerful Warrior win on Tuesday night. The Warriors took on the Stonehill College Skyhawks, and totaled nine goals to the Skyhawk five. This was a huge victory for the Warriors, especially coming off a shootout loss to the University of New Hampshire Wildcats.

During the first period, sophomore forward Trevor Hoskin would open the game with a goal less than two minutes in. The assist for this goal would go to sophomore forward Nick Pierre and freshman forward Justin Gill. Just before the halfway point of that same period, sophomore forward Ryan O’Connell would score a second Warrior goal. A third goal came from freshman forward Joey Henneberry on an assist from O’Connell. The closing goal of the period would be delivered by junior defenseman Cam Kungle with an assist from junior forward Michel Emerson.

During the first period, Stonehill would put one goal on the scoreboard.

During the second period, Hoskin would bank in his second goal of the game, and sophomore defenseman and captain Caelan Fitzpatrick would bank in the second Warrior goal of the period while they were shorthanded. The Skyhawks would score one more goal during this period.

Opening the third period Stonehill would put their third point on the board. The Warriors would respond with a goal from freshman forward Daniel Astapovich. Pierre would put the eight points on the board shortly after. The game winning point would come from Gill. While the Skyhawks would be able to score two more before the end of the period. That still would not be enough.

With a final score of 9 – 5 the Warriors dominated the ice at Warrior Arena. Bringing this momentum back is a very good way to power through a frustrating loss. Can they maintain this with their upcoming games against the Boston College Eagles? Only time will tell.
