One of Merrimack’s own Alyssa Zahoruiko ‘16, is ready to take her lessons learned as a Warrior to new heights.
Currently serving as the Senior Asst Director of Visitor Services and Ambassador Program, Zahoruiko will transition to Tufts University at the end of October.
During her time at Merrimack, she maximized her opportunities, engaging in a multitude of involvements over just four years. Zahoruiko was an Admissions Ambassador, Orientation Leader, Orientation Coordinator, Information Desk staff, Office of Student Involvement Intern, and member of Omicron Delta Kappa. She also played a pivotal role as one of the first First Year Experience Mentors.
Following her undergraduate experience, Zahoruiko earned her Master’s Degree from Suffolk University, and spent some time around the country at a variety of different universities from California to Massachusetts. She returned to Merrimack full time at the Welcome Center in 2021 to serve as a Senior Admissions Counselor. “I’ve done so much in such a short time, it’s crazy to think back on all these years,” said Zahoruiko, reflecting on how many involvements she participated in.
When reminiscing about her favorite memories at Merrimack, Zahoruiko fondly recalled her time as an undergraduate. “I was an Orientation Coordinator… and on stage after speaking I remember a dad coming up to me and telling me that I had given his daughter a tour, and seeing the full circle moment from introducing Merrimack to now sending this student off to college orientation was really rewarding.”
As a professional staff member, her most cherished memory is witnessing graduation. “Every year I love to see all of you guys achieve your greatest milestone. It’s such an important moment, and I’m so happy to be a part of it.”
Since her arrival, Zahoruiko has seen the Ambassador program grow significantly, with over 200 student ambassadors participating. These students deliver tours to prospective students and host open houses and admitted student days. Zahoruiko has trained and onboarded a diverse group of ambassadors, including international students, athletes, and artists.
Her departure will leave a lasting impact on the students she mentored. Brianna Lecesse ’25, a two-year member of the program noted that “She has truly changed my perspective on the Ambassador Program. Alyssa is always there to support us and is a great person to talk to. I will miss her, but am so excited to see what the future holds for her.” Other students agreed with Lecesse’s sentiments, highlighting Zahoruiko’s leadership and lighthearted attitude, which made work more enjoyable and fulfilling.
Zahoruiko will be welcomed to the Tufts community as the Assistant Director of Student Life, Orientation, and Student Experience. She expressed that she will miss the process of hiring ambassadors and guiding them through the program, from New Hires to E-Board members the most.
Zahoruiko will greatly miss the Merrimack community, especially as she reflects on the significant changes the college has undergone since her time as a student. “Merrimack was so niche when I went here, and has grown so much since then. Even when you guys talk about all of the classes you take, I am always thinking ‘I wish I had that when I was a student,’ it’s cool to see how we offer way more now and so many different pathways for so many different students.”
The entire Welcome Center Team wishes Alyssa the best of luck in her future endeavors and will deeply miss her spirit, positivity, and significant impact she has made on the Merrimack College Community.
