During the month of October, one of the greek life organizations here at Merrimack, Zeta Tau Alpha, hosted their annual Breast Cancer Awareness month. While this brought about many changes, due to the pandemic and not having all sisters on campus, the Kappa Omicron chapter still exceeded their fundraising goal by over 100 percent, which will go to the ZTA Foundation.
Typically, during the month of October, the organization hosts numerous events and fundraising activities to promote Breast Cancer Awareness and education to students on campus. Zeta Tau Alpha has been seen doing events, such as hosting “Pink out” sporting events, ThinkPink photo campaigns, and tabling in the Saowich campus center, with fun activities, prizes, and more.
During the month of September, members of the sorority spread awareness through their calendar drive event. This event featured numerous, fun-themed baskets for each day. Tickets could be purchased through the links which they shared on many social media platforms.
The goal of the Breast Cancer Awareness month is to spread awareness and educate others about breast cancer. The large number of sisters in the chapter meant they could reach a wide scope of people even virtually.
For Think Pink Week, Think Pink Chairman, Shannon O’Grady ’22 created Instagram stories for each day of the week, with facts about breast cancer for all of the Zeta sisters to share with their followers.
“Spreading awareness and becoming alert to different signs of breast cancer is the first step to preventing it,” said O’Grady.
