Why New England Has the Best Sports Teams (and Why Everyone Hates Us)

The date is November 12, 2019. I open up my phone like any other day and check the stats for my favorite sports teams on ESPN. By no surprise, the Celtics are number one in the Eastern Conference, the Patriots are number one in the AFC East conference, and the Bruins are number one in the Atlantic Division. Why is this you may ask? Well, isn’t it obvious? It’s New England. Why would we be anything other than number one?

But in all seriousness, it seems that over the past few years, Boston sports teams have sat atop the pedestal of sports. Everyone hates this unless they’re from the area.

With Tom Brady considered possibly the greatest quarterback of all time (you can’t forget about his six rings!), the Red Sox who sadly did not win the World Series this year but did win it last year as well as many times before that, the Celtics who have been climbing the ladder and regaining their spot since we lost the Big 5 many years before ,and the Bruins who made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs last year and are known for Bobby Orr and the famous photo seen across the world, it is hard to top this power four.

So why does everyone hate us? Is it just because they are jealous? Or because they are sick of seeing their team lose over and over again? It seems that as soon as a Boston sports team loses, the media is so quick to jump on any meme or way to troll New England. When the Patriots took their first loss of the season to the Baltimore Ravens, it seemed that the whole world knew and everywhere you looked someone was posting about it. But why is that? Since the DeflateGate issue back during the 2014-2015 playoffs, many people perceive New England to be cheaters and that is how we always win. But whether New England cheated or not, they have proven time and time again that they are based on pure talent.

It is understandable why so many other fans hate us because they are sick of seeing us win all the time. And I am sure we would be in the same position as them if our teams were losing, too. But as we know and as many of us seem to forget, we were not always at the top of the food chain and we most likely will not be for much longer. At some point soon, Tom Brady will retire, the Celtics will stop getting good draft picks, etc. Players get traded and follow the money. So, for now, we will enjoy having all of our sports teams be number one, but we cannot forget where we came from and we must remember that all good things come to an end.
