Friends share secrets. That’s what keeps us close.”—Alison DiLaurentis

When Pretty Little Liars first aired on ABC Family in 2010, it rose to popularity very quickly. Based on the book series by Sara Shepard, the show revolves around four high school girls, Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily, and the disappearance or their ringleader, Alison. The queen bee of Rosewood High was missing for a year when her body was discovered buried in her backyard. The discovery brings the four remaining girls back together after a year of distance, but they have another reason for closing ranks: they’re getting creepy texts and notes from “A,” who claims to know all of their dirty secrets, and they have a lot to hide. The show technically takes place over the span of two years, the girls’ junior and senior years of high school, but the most recent season began with a five year time jump and showed the girls reconnecting after returning home from college.

It might seem like a typical show for teens, but Pretty Little Liars has a lot of heart. The girls work together and confront their mistakes and insecurities together, supporting each other through everything. This show has kept fans hooked through twists and turns and multiple shocking reveals, but sadly, all good things must come to an end. When Pretty Little Liars returns next year, it will be for its final episodes. All the more reason to binge and catch up.

Fun Fact: The view of Rosewood is also used in Witches of East End, The Carrie Diaries, Gilmore Girls, Bitten, and Hart of Dixie.
