Weekly Bri: 10 Hobbies To Take Up While Stuck In Quarantine

With college classes coming to end soon, you will (hopefully) have some more free time on your hands. There is no better time than now to take up a new hobby – or two, or three!

  1. Learn a new language

Planning to travel once this is all over? Why not try learning a new language to make it easier to navigate your dream travel destination. Both Duolingo and Babbel are great places to start. The best part? They are free!

  1. Knit

Anyone else’s middle school art teacher MAKE them knit and it frustrated you more than anything? Well, now that there is no pressure it is for a grade, why not try knitting? You can actually make some pretty cool things.

  1. Release your inner artist

The good thing is that paint, brushes, and canvases are fairly cheap on Amazon. Also, if you are missing your friends, family, or significant other you can make them something to keep forever!

  1. Become an expert puzzler

This is a great way to challenge your brain and put it to work. With there being so many puzzle options out there, there is one you are bound to like. On the plus side, they aren’t too expensive and are easily accessible.

  1. Bake

The amount of cookies I have made in quarantine is a little bit startling. But, it is of course all for research to find out the best chocolate chip recipe. Anyways, baking takes up a decent amount of time and at the end of it you have a delicious treat.

  1. Relax and try meditation

You are probably feeling more anxious than you typically do, and that’s okay. Kick back, relax, and try mediation. Being in the moment is the best thing that you can do for yourself mentally. Try a free app like Headspace or Calm.

  1. DIY candle making

I promise, this is actually a lot easier than you think. Plus, it is something that will last you a while – and who doesn’t want to say they made their own candle? For more details on how to DIY your own candle, check out this website.

  1. Write

Even if it is just writing your thoughts down about what the heck is going on in the world right now – grab a pencil and paper and start writing. Nothing has to be perfect, and what you write down might surprise you.

  1. Start a book club with your best friends

Firstly, there are actually great books out there – not just books that we have to read to pass our classes. Secondly, this is a great excuse to meet up with your friends once a week on Zoom to chat.

  1.  Try a workout you swore you would never try

I think we all have that ONE workout we swore we would never try. For me, it was boxing. But I actually learned to love it. Why don’t you give your “never” workout a try?
