Continuing the play that won her Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year the previous year, sophomore Taylor Simpson leads the Merrimack College field hockey team in points halfway through the season. Simpson, who is a forward from York, Maine, has 18 points thus far this season. She ended last season with a record-team high of 51 shots on goal. Currently, Simpson and the Merrimack College field hockey team are ranked 8th in the country. The Beacon sat down with the gifted sophomore to get to know her off the field.
How long have you been playing field hockey for?
I’ve been playing field hockey since the 8th grade. I played soccer and then I got cut from the team, and my mom really wanted me to play field hockey so I did and I loved it.
If you had to describe yourself to a complete stranger in one word, what would that word be?
Shy.
If you could switch places with a celebrity for one day who would it be?
I would switch with Tom Brady because he has the perfect life.
Who is one person that has had the most impact on you as person so far?
My parents. Without them I don’t think I would be in college or playing a college sport in general.
What is one of your favorite shows that you’re embarrassed to admit is a favorite show?
Castle. I feel like no one else watches it except older people.
If you were stranded on an island and could only have three things with you, what would those three things be?
Water, Apple crisp and my pillow.
If you visit any country what would it be?
Greece.
You’re taking a cross country road trip and can only listen to one genre of music in the car the whole trip, what would that genre be?
Country.
What is your favorite account to follow on social media?
USA field hockey because it focuses on college teams and the national team.
What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
Never give up.
What do you hope to accomplish at Merrimack before you graduate?
I hope to graduate with a masters in Human Development. I also hope to win the national championship.
