Senior Samantha Waskowitz is a member of the Merrimack College softball team. This Killingworth, Connecticut native is studying Business and Mathematics. Waskowitz is a versatile player having positions at second base as well as in the outfield. Last season, Waskowitz was one of three to play in 49 games in the spring, just missing one game all season. This season, the senior captain has registered 35 runs, 44 hits, 3 home runs within the past week and seven RBI. Waskowitz recently just earned her first NE10 Conference Player of the Week honor. The Beacon sat down with Waskowitz to get to know her more off of the field.
What age did you first start playing softball?
I started playing softball when I was 5 years old.
How did you get started playing softball?
My mom played in college at the University of New Haven and coached my brothers in baseball. I was always around it and learned how to play from her.
What is the most important lesson softball has taught you?
There are always more plays to make or at bats to take. Overall, there are always going to be more opportunities.
What is a piece of advice that you know now that you would give yourself freshman year?
Continue to try and get involved in clubs and groups around campus because it will keep you well-rounded and meet a lot of people.
If you could survive off one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
My mom’s stuffed shells.
If you could spend a day with a celebrity, who would it be and why?
Ellen DeGeneres, because she is always willing to give back to someone or a community in need. It is heartwarming to see someone do that daily and something I would personally like to try to do more.
