The Fearsome Foursome: The annual Sports Equinox did not disappoint in 2025

Liam MacKenzie

The greatest day in Sports arrived on Monday of October 27th, 2025 as it was the annual Sports Equinox where all of the four Major American Sports had televised games scheduled to kick off the last week of October. The National Football League is in the middle of its season as the Kansas City Chiefs led by Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Tight End Travis Kelce and Head Coach Andy Reid took on an injury riddled Commanders team with Quarterback Jayden Daniels being one of the key players out. The game was played at GEHA field or as many people call it, Arrowhead Stadium on ESPN’s coverage of Monday Night Football. The Chiefs pulled away with a 28-7 victory over the Commanders led by a three touchdown passing performance from Patrick Mahomes as one of those came from a guy who had two touchdowns both on the receiving end and on the ground which happened to be running back Kareem Hunt. The other touchdowns came from Travis Kelce and Wide Receiver Rashee Rice as they scored later on in the second half. For the Commanders, the lone touchdown came from a touchdown pass by quarterback Marcus Mariota to wide receiver Terry McLaurin late in the first half as it tied the game at 7 during that moment. The Chiefs will be moving on to what should be the game of the season as they travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills led by Quarterback Josh Allen. For the Commanders, they will go back to Landover, Maryland as they have a matchup on Sunday Night against the Seattle Seahawks.

As for some other Sports, there were two Boston teams that were a part of the Sports Equinox schedule with those being the Boston Celtics and the Boston Bruins. For the Bruins, their night was pretty rough as they suffered a 2-7 defeat against the Ottawa Senators. The game started off nicely as Morgan Geekie got the Bruins on the board to take a 1-0 lead until the Senators scored 7 unanswered goals until the Bruins had an encouraging moment with 10 seconds late in the game as Viktor Arvidsson was able to tally a goal which felt a little too late, but was worth it when that score was needed most. The Bruins are back at home to take on the New York Islanders. As for the Celtics, they were able to finally get a win on the season as they took down the New Orleans Pelicans 122-90 led by a 25 point performance from Anfernee Simons who was acquired from the Jrue Holiday trade. The Celtics at one point had a 5 point margin as they were up 91-86 with some viewers hoping that they would not blow another 4th quarter lead, but that would fortunately not happen as they went on a 31-4 run showing the team that they were known as putting on a “Celtics Avalanche” late in the game. Boston moves to 1-3 on the season as they head back home to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers at TD Garden in a matchup where they hope to pick up their first victory in front of the fans at home as it will be a tough test to face without the likes of Jayson Tatum playing due to his Achilles Injury he suffered.

Last but certainly not least, the MLB had an unforgettable Game 3 of the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles where the Dodgers went on to beat the Blue Jays in a record setting game where the game ended in the bottom of the 18th off a walk off solo homer by First Baseman Freddie Freeman into center field that resulted in a 6-5 victory for the Dodgers and it set a record for the 2nd longest played World Series game in MLB history. For some, it was a cinematic feeling with Freeman hitting the game winning homer while for others, it gave this anticlimactic feeling because of the fact that this homer occurred 1 year and 2 days removed from the game winning home run hit by Freddie Freeman into right field during Game 1 of the 2024 world series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. What is also interesting to note is that this game 3 in the 2025 World Series is not the only time it went to 18 innings in Dodger, the last time it happened was 7 years and 1 day ago where the Dodgers took on the Boston Red Sox and the Dodgers went on to win in 18 innings of game 3 as Max Muncy hit a game winning solo homer into left center field to win the game 3-2 to end the longest played World Series game in MLB history. The Dodgers and Blue Jays will now be playing game 4 tonight as the Blue Jays attempt to try and get back into the series while for the Dodgers, they look to take a commanding 3-1 lead after losing game 1 in Toronto. The Dodgers will have Shohei Ohtani take the mound in which he will be playing both on offense and defense which is something that has been seen on occasions while for the Blue Jays, they will have Shane Bieber on the bump who was acquired during the July 31st trade deadline this season.

The “Sports Equinox” is a once in a lifetime occasion for fans that has them glued to their televisions or even at the playing field of any stadium/arena that they go to. This moment in time gives us a friendly reminder as to why we love this event of competition between franchises. It is able to seize the moment of raw emotion between big time rivals battling it out, dramatic moments that get the attention of every fan in the stadium or arena and a championship being battled for on the diamond of a ball park. Another year of the sports equinox is in the books, but it will be back again in a matter of time.
