It’s Day 22 of the Beacon’s Christmas Movie Countdown! To round out our countdown, we’ve got three of the most beloved pieces of holiday media to take a look at. The Peanuts characters have been around since the 50’s, and they’ve been the stars of numerous different holiday specials throughout the years. But in this case, A Charlie Brown Christmas has cemented its place in the all time greats of Christmas media.
This classic Christmas tale tells the story of how Charlie Brown struggled to know the true meaning of the holiday season. To lift his spirits, Lucy recommends that Charlie direct the annual Christmas play. During the production of the play, Charlie struggles to keep everything in order. To get things back on track, Charlie decides to seek out a Christmas tree. But the only real one he could find was a small sapling, which led to him being mocked by his friends. But after some touching words from Linus, Charlie ends up decorating the tree regardless. But after feeling remorseful, Charlie’s friends end up joining him and they decorate the three together.
Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts cast are always a delight, and this special is one of their best depictions. Of course, the special also features some classic Snoopy shenanigans. The music is another major highlight, with the talented work of Vince Guaraldi greatly adding to the special’s holiday charm. It’s practically in the unwritten rules of Christmas to have A Charlie Brown Christmas in your holiday film list. We’ve only got two more days to go before the end of our Countdown!
