It’s Day 13 of our Christmas Countdown! For this next film, we’re heading back to the world of animation with one of Disney’s many Christmas outings. Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas was originally released all the way back in 1999 and is an anthology special that’s split up into different stories, with each one focusing on the core cast of Mickey Mouse.
The film consists of three anthology stories that all end up coming together by the end. “Donald Duck: Stuck On Christmas” follows Huey, Duey and Louie wishing for Christmas to never end. Their wish gets granted and they begin to relive Christmas day over and over. “A Very Goofy Christmas” follows Goofy and his son Max bonding as they prepare for their Christmas festivities. Finally, “Mickey and Minnie’s Gift Of The Magi” follows Mickey and Minnie hoping to get each other the gift that the other wants the most.
The film showcases that classic Disney charm and hand drawn animation. Each story features a strong morale and gives a lot of depth to these characters that have been around for so long. Each one also feels distinctive and captures the various ways that Christmas is celebrated. Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas is still recognized as a cult Christmas classic and even received a sequel a few years later.
