The Christmas season is officially upon us, and we’ve got 25 days to go. To celebrate the arrival of the holidays, I’ve put together a list of holly jolly films to help you get in the holiday spirit. This list includes many Christmas classics, as well as some of my own personal favorites. To kick off the month of December, I decided to pick arguably one of the best Christmas movies of all time to start this holiday season marathon.
Home Alone needs no introduction, as it’s considered to be a staple of the Christmas season. For those not familiar with the film, Home Alone follows Kevin McCallister being left behind after his family heads out for their Christmas vacation in Paris. He then has to fend off a duo of burglars who attempt to pull off a home invasion. There’s so much outstanding talent that was involved in the making of this film. Chris Colombus made for a perfect director, and John Hughes wrote an amazing script that captures the magic of the holidays while telling a compelling and endearing story. As with the rest of his work, John Williams put together a memorable score that really adds to how much this film gets right.
The effects and set design with the booby traps still hold up even after more than 30 years, and all of the actors give it their all. But the star of the show is Macaulay Culkin as Kevin, as he delivers a great performance that’s both entertaining and captivating. Home Alone is an over the top, fun filled Christmas flick that still remains one of the best for the holiday season. You can currently stream in on both Hulu and Disney +. Make sure to check out the future Christmas Countdown articles as the holidays approach.
