MERRIMACK COLLEGE – Those who find themselves scrolling through various food delivery apps instead of heading for Sparky’s may have come across an advertisement for a new and seasonal ice cream from Wendy’s.
This fall, Wendy’s has debuted their newest frosty flavor, Pumpkin Spice. In addition, they released a Pumpkin Spice Frosty Cream Cold Brew, following the trend of pumpkin spice lattes.
In an article published on the Wendy’s website, the fast food chain reports some bad news for those who prefer vanilla; “It’s fall Frosty Time! The new Pumpkin Spice Frosty is Wendy’s twist on a beloved flavor. Sure, it feels like everywhere you turn, there’s a Pumpkin Spice drink. But you can only find a Pumpkin Spice Frosty exclusively at Wendy’s. This new one-of-a-kind decadent pumpkin treat joins our Classic Chocolate Frosty on menus for the season ahead, and the Vanilla Frosty will be temporarily unavailable.”
As of the evening of September 18th, the dessert is only available on UberEats and the Wendy’s app/website, as neither GrubHub nor Doordash offer the special flavor in their delivery services. Additionally, UberEats offered a two-for-one deal on their Pumpkin Spice Frosty for UberOne members, from September 13th through September 19th.
The company has added new, seasonal, flavors to the Frosty before, yet over the past 50 years, these additions have only been recent. Strawberry and Peppermint graced the menu last year in the summer and winter seasons, and birthday cake premiered in 2019.
In a 2022 report from CNN Business: “It’s the second new flavor the chain has launched in 2022, and it marks a notable shift for Wendy’s in expanding beyond the traditional chocolate and vanilla: Peppermint is only its third new Frosty flavor in the US in the past 16 years… In 2019, the company added a birthday cake Frosty for a limited time for its 50th birthday. The vanilla Frosty was added to menus in 2006 and strawberry was briefly sold this past year.”
The Pumpkin Spice Flavor would bring the company’s total flavor count to six.
As the autumn season settles in, and pumpkin spice invades every corner of the market, it will be interesting to see if this new Frosty Flavor becomes a fall favorite or a fall flop!
