In a time of major change, what’s the one thing every freshman has in common at Merrimack College? Everyone has to take FYE! FYE, or First Year Experience, is a class that every incoming freshman takes here at Merrimack College. This one-credit course is essentially a “Welcome to Merrimack” class, with each class having an instructor and a mentor. It is designed to help students with the difficult transition into college in both an academic and social way! This class meets once a week and is often designed so that students with similar majors or programs are grouped together. FYE instructors and mentors work hard to make sure that each lesson is relevant to their students and that they are as open and helpful as possible. Some things that incoming freshmen learn during this course is how to develop professionally, how to adjust to college life and how to navigate the numerous resources and involvement that Merrimack has to offer. As a mentor myself, I can personally vouch for how much we genuinely care for each of our students and want to help them with one of the biggest adjustments and transitions in their life. If you or someone you know is interested in being an FYE Mentor, applications are open for the 2022-23 academic year.
