Merrimack’s commitment to bettering the education of its students doesn’t just stop in the classroom.
From the writing center to the math center, Merrimack is always finding ways to assist its students. The Professional Development retreat is just one of the many programs that Merrimack offers.
Joseph Jenkins, business career specialist and coordinator for this retreat said, “It’s an opportunity to meet and interact with other Merrimack alumni and seniors, outside of the classroom,” said Joseph Jenkins, business career specialist and coordinator the retreat.
So how do students leap at this opportunity to expand on their education and get a step ahead?
This event has an application process that is only open to upperclassmen, 60 seniors and 60 juniors. It is an overnight stay at the Battery Wharf Hotel in Boston, where days are packed with interactive activities involving the students and alumni. Some of the activities are identifying strengths and weaknesses to things like elevator speeches.
Kelly Hartlage, a Communications major and senior here at Merrimack attended the retreat this year and said, “All the alumni were very generous with their advice and time, and really wanted to see each and every student succeed both personally and professionally.”
Danielle Donovan, a Communications major and senior said, “It’s nice meeting successful Merrimack alumni and knowing that they want to help us in our career, a lady reached out to me and offered me an internship so I encourage everyone to go.”
