History has a funny way of repeating itself, after months of speculation about retirement, Aaron Rodgers made it known that he wanted to be a New York Jet. Then the Jets and Packers spent weeks discussing trade terms before talks stalled. Talks began again today and Aaron Rodgers is officially a New York Jet.
The compensation is as follows, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
New York Jets Receive:
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the 15th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, and the 170th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft
Green Bay Packers Receive:
The 13th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the 42nd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the 207th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and a conditional second-round pick in 2024 which will turn into a first if Aaron Rodgers plays 65 percent of offensive snaps.
The four-time MVP will bring his talents to the Jets just as another legendary Packers quarterback did before him, Brett Favre. History finds ways to repeat itself, as a first-round selection who has been sitting on the bench in Green Bay will now have his chance to lead the franchise after a legend departs.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Rodgers will sign a revised contract to help Green Bay facilitate this trade and their salary cap situation. The trade will be official before the draft, and Aaron Rodgers, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, will be a New York Jet.
The four-time MVP and Super Bowl Champion has nearly 60,000 passing yards in his career, 475 passing touchdowns, and only 105 interceptions. With Rodgers, the expectation is Super Bowl in New York, now we wait and see if he can deliver.
