Boston, MA – The Boston Bruins have secured a key piece of their young core, as they have signed forward Frase Minten to a seven-year contract extension worth $50.4 million. The deal, announced September 8, carries an average annual value and salary-cap hit of $7.2 million and runs through the 2033-34 season.

At 22 years old, Minten becomes one of the players Boston is committing to as the organization continues to shape its future. The extension comes after his first full NHL season with the Bruins, where he established career highs across the board.

The Contract Details – Minten will finish the 2026-27 season on his entry-level contract before beginning his seven-year extension the following season. His current deal carries an $850,000 base salary before the seven-year extension takes effect.

The extension will keep Minten in Boston through the 2033-34 season, when he will be 29 years old and eligible to become an unrestricted free agent. The $50.4 million total value works out to $7.2 million per season.

From Toronto to Boston – Minten’s journey to Boston began with the Toronto Maple Leafs, who selected him 38th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. The Bruins acquired him from Toronto on March 7, 2025, as part of the trade that sent defenseman Brandon Carlo to the Maple Leafs.

Along with Minten, Boston received a conditional 2026 first-round pick and a 2025 fourth-round pick, while retaining 15 percent of Carlo’s salary. At the time of the trade, Minten had appeared in 15 games with Toronto and had recorded two goals and two assists.

Minten Makes His Mark – Since arriving in Boston, Minten has quickly become an important part of the Bruins’ plans. During the 2025-26 season, he appeared in all 82 games and recorded 17 goals, 18 assists and 35 points, all career highs.

His 35 points were the most by a Bruins rookie since the 2017-18 season. Minten also finished with a plus-21 rating, further establishing himself as a player Boston could rely on in multiple situations.

Minten or Zacha? – Heading into the offseason, Pavel Zacha and Minten were two of the names Bruins fans wanted to see remain in Boston long-term. With both players representing important pieces of the team’s forward group, the possibility of either one receiving a significant extension was a major talking point.

Boston ultimately made its long-term commitment to Minten, giving the young center seven more years in the Black and Gold. The contract now makes him one of the players the Bruins will build around as they move into the next chapter of the franchise.

A Seven-Year Bet on the Future – The Bruins’ decision to give Minten a seven-year extension reflects the organization’s confidence in his continued development. General manager Don Sweeney cited Minten’s hockey sense, competitiveness, two-way game and offensive growth when discussing the extension.

For Minten, the contract provides long-term stability at a pivotal point in his career. After arriving from Toronto as part of a major trade, he has now earned a seven-year commitment from the organization that acquired him.

The Minten Era – What started as a trade-deadline acquisition has developed into a long-term relationship between Minten and the Bruins. Boston acquired Minten from Toronto as a 20-year-old prospect in 2025. Less than two years later, he has earned a seven-year, $50.4 million extension with the Bruins.

Now, Minten will have seven more seasons to establish himself as a fixture in Boston. The Bruins have made their commitment, and the next chapter of the Minten era is officially underway.
