The Miami Dolphins are building quite the coaching staff as their search for a new defensive coordinator has ended, they and former Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio have agreed to a three-year deal, with a fourth-year team option, to make Fangio the highest-paid coordinator in the league, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
During Fangio’s time as head coach of the Broncos, his defenses were fantastic. He took care of his side of the ball, while consistent shortcomings on the offense led to his eventual firing. Many teams in the NFL have tried to replicate what Fangio did on defense, but they were never able to get it right. Now Miami went straight to the source to improve their defense.
Over the past decade, Fangio has coached as a defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014, and the Chicago Bears from 2015 to 2018. After having a very impressive defense in Chicago, that saw him be awarded the AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year, the Denver Broncos hired him as their head coach, where he had a 19-30 record from 2019 to 2021, before being fired. In 2022 he was hired by the Philadelphia Eagles as a defensive consultant, which was a very well-kept secret.
Mike McDaniel won the Fangio sweepstakes, now the Dolphins will look toward next season with a new defensive coordinator.
