Christian Felton will forgo his 5th year of NCAA eligibility for the NHL.

Last night it was announced by General Manager Patrik Allvin that the Vancouver Canucks signed Merrimack Defenseman Christian Felton to a one-year, entry level contract.

Felton, 24, played 26 games this past season for Merrimack. He tallied 3 goals for 7 points and posted a team-high in blocked shots (55). His play was cut short after he suffered a season ending upper-body injury at UNH.

The 6’1”, 190-pound right-shot defenseman finished his collegiate career with 17 points (7-10-17) in 98 games that split between Bentley University and Merrimack.

Last year, Felton was named to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team and scored the game-opening goal in the conference championship game against BU.

As a result, the Canucks invited him to their summer camp and had been keeping a close eye on him since.

Felton will be the first Merrimack player to sign an NHL deal since defensemen Declan Carlile and Zach Uens signed contracts in 2022.

The Ohio native is signed on for the 2024-25 season and joins a solid young defensive prospect core for Vancouver.
