Merrimack College is partnering with the Lawrence-based organization SquashBusters to develop a brand new athletic complex in the campus athletic district.
SquashBusters is a youth program that specializes in athletic achievement, especially the game of squash, as well as academic support, community service, and other programs to better the lives of children in Lawrence, Boston, and Providence.

Merrimack and SquashBusters are planning to build an 18,000 square foot space that will include eight squash courts, classrooms, offices, and locker rooms to be used by the students at Merrimack and those involved in SquashBusters.
“This synergistic relationship will create a program that deepens our work with young people in Lawrence,” said Merrimack College President Christopher E. Hopey.
This is just the latest in a series of expansions for the college. The school recently built a brand new business building, Crowe Hall, and Duane Stadium. The school is also joining the Northeast Conference to make the jump to Division I athletics.
The college’s partnership with SquashBusters is another example of the Merrimack’s goal of helping to enrich our community. Merrimack currently partners with a high school in Lawrence, Abbott Lawrence Academy, to provide college course credits to students. Merrimack College also has several service learning opportunities in Lawrence, including Hands to Help.
It could be awhile before the new athletic complex opens on Merrimack’s campus as fundraising is just beginning, but many see this as another example of the great direction Merrimack is headed.
