On Tuesday December 1, Merrimack College hosted its annual Celebration of Light and Hope. The night’s festivities began in the Rogers Center for the Arts with a blessing given by Father Ray and Father Rick, followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree by President Hopey with the help from some children. Merrimack College’s concert choir sang throughout the celebration, helping students, faculty, and community members get into the Christmas spirit.

After the tree lighting, everyone was invited to go to the hockey rink where food, 
dessert, hot chocolate, live music, and Santa and Mrs. Claus were waiting. The school also provided free ice skates for anyone who wished to head out onto the ice. Both the men and women’s hockey teams skated around the rink, helping the young children that were participating.
There was an amazing turn out, including many Merrimack College alumni and their families. The Celebration of Light and Hope is an incredible event that forms a feeling of togetherness and helps the entire campus and surrounding community get in the full swing of the beautiful season of Advent and Christmas.
“It was a lot of fun and got me more excited for the holidays!” stated freshman Kayla Goldman.
The celebration illuminated the hundreds of Christmas lights all across campus and the nativity scene, creating a truly breath taking sight at night.
The night’s events were a complete success that left smiles on hundreds of faces and allowed people of all ages to leave in a bright, spirited mood. Merrimack’s annual tradition proved once again to be a wonderful and enjoyable experience for many.
