This past Friday, the Merrimack College Women’s Ice Hockey team defeated the Saint Anselm College Hawks during their home opener 3-2. In the first period, Merrimack’s number 11 Celine Tedenby scored the first goal of the game, leading the warriors into the second period 1-0. During the second period, Saint Anselm’s number 22 Maddy McCaffery tied up the game 1-1. In the third quarter, Merrimack’s number 13 Mary Edmonds assisted Merrimack’s number 7 Payten Evans in scoring and regaining the lead for the Warriors. Shortly after, Merrimack’s number 2 Teghan Inglis would follow up with another goal for the Warriors, bringing the score to Merrimack 3 and Saint Anselm 1. With ten seconds left in the game, Saint Anselm’s number 7 Tyra Turner assisted Saint Anselm’s number 22 Maddy McCaffery with a goal to bring the score to Merrimack 3 and Saint Anselm 2, but it wouldn’t be enough for them to recover. The Warriors would come out on top in this game and overcome the tough start to their season. The Warriors next game will be this Friday and Saturday when they travel to Syracuse University to face off against them in a double header.
