McCormick, left, was a poster boy for Merrimack’s production of “True West” before he was arrested in the middle of the show Saturday.

McCormick’s arrest interrupted Merrimack’s performance of “True West,” in which he was a lead character, proving the show doesn’t always go on.

McCormick, 30, of Arlington, Mass., was delivered to Arlington police and appeared in Cambridge District Court on Monday.

Arlington police were called to McCormick`s home on Madison Avenue at 3 a.m. Saturday. There his girlfriend was found crying with bruises on her chin, neck and bloodshot eyes, according to a police report. She told officers that McCormick first began to assault and strangle her in the bedroom, after an argument over his receiving texts from another woman. She was able to escape to the living room, where he knocked her to the floor and continued to strangle her on the couch, she alleged.

She told police she was able to remove herself from his grasp and he left in his Chevy Impala. Police found signs of damage on the bedroom floor, office and hallway walls, which appeared as if they were punched in, reports said.

According to McCormick’s Facebook page, he is a physical trainer and teaches the martial-arts-based workout “BodyCombat” to women. His most recent post read: “Need to bring your A -Game today girls because I`m bringing some heat today”.

Arlington police confirmed McCormick was arraigned at the Cambridge District Courthouse on Monday but declined to say if he was released on bail.

Merrimack police declined to say if he is permitted to return to campus.
