Last Friday, the Merrimack College Men’s Hockey team took on Boston College home at Lawler Rink. The Warriors came up short in a 4-1 loss, but aside from the game the Kappa Sigma Fraternity here at Merrimack hosted a Military Heroes Appreciation Night. Kappa Sigma is a very involved organization on campus with their philanthropy event revolving around supporting the country’s veterans. At the pre-game the Andover Legion Post 8 Honor guard presented our nation’s colors during the National Anthem. Petty officer Micheal Currier dropped the puck at center ice, a former veteran with five tours under his belt.
So, the money that was raised will be going to a veterans organization called Veterans Moving Forward. This organization directly provides service dogs, facility dogs and emotional support dogs to veterans with physical and/or mental health challenges. The veterans are given the dogs with no cost to them or their family. The fraternity has had big success raising money for such a great organization over the past three years. The organization will look to raise more money for Veterans Moving Forward throughout the year. So be on the lookout and help support our country’s veterans.
Kappa Sigma will also be hosting a Grilled Cheese Fundraiser this coming Thursday (November 18th) from 8 p.m. to 2 p.m. Pre-order your grilled cheese through the Kappa Sigma Instagram @mckappasigma
