2020-2021 Editorial Board
Bri is a senior at Merrimack College majoring in Communication and Media. Bri is incredibly excited to take on her new role, as she wants to help boost awareness for The Beacon and continue to build out our online site. On campus, Bri is the Vice President of Standards for Theta Phi Alpha. She also is the Secretary/ Social Media Director for MCTV. Upon graduation, she wants to work in either social media content creation or influencer marketing.
Scott Edwards is a senior at Merrimack, majoring in Communications and Media with minors in Sports Management and Marketing. This is his second year writing and editing for The Beacon. Scott is also the Sports Director of WMCK Radio. He hopes to attend graduate school and then work as a journalist after graduation.
Nicole is a junior at Merrimack College majoring in Communication and Media and has a double minor in Journalism and Digital Media Production. Nicole is enthusiastic about entering this new leadership role with the Beacon. She hopes to contribute strong stories and new ideas to the organization as a whole! On campus, she is also the Vice President of MCTV. Nicole hopes to have a career in video broadcasting and or journalism/ storytelling for a news organization.
Ali is a senior at Merrimack College double majoring in Communication and Media and Political Science. She also has a minor in Pre-Law. This is Ali’s second year on The Beacon as the Arts and Entertainment Editor. On campus, Ali is a Resident Advisor (RA) as well as the Coordinator for the Merrimack College Honors Ambassadors. She wants to pursue a career in broadcast journalism or higher education after graduation from Merrimack.
Brenna is the sports editor for the Beacon this year. She is a senior and is on the women’s swim team. She is also a spin instructor through MC Fit Rec and hosts a radio show with fellow Beacon E-Board member Scott Edwards called The Morning After Thursday nights at 6pm. Brenna has always had a passion for sports and hopes to use her skills when she graduates to work for ESPN or be in the sports field in any way.
Shaun is the associate sports editor for the Beacon this year. He is a Junior double majoring in sports management and communications and media. On campus, Shaun is an FYE mentor and E-Board member for MCTV. He wants to pursue a career in either sports broadcasting and production or sports writing.
Liv is a junior at Merrimack with majors in International Studies and Political Science. She is very enthusiastic about her role on the Beacon & reaching a wider audience virtually through a pandemic. Liv is involved in other organizations on campus such as Active Minds, where she serves as the Treasurer. She is also the IT Committee Chair on Student Government Association as well as a Wellness Peer Educator. Liv enjoys being an active member of the campus community and showing other students what Merrimack has to offer. She plans to continue onto graduate school after graduating, to bring her one step closer to her dream of working for an NGO such as the United Nations.
Geena is a senior studying Communications and Media with a minor in Digital Media Production. Geena has been the photo editor for the past 2 years! She loves being able to take and edit photos with The Beacon for a community she loves! She is involved in Theta Phi Alpha, Merrimack’s Student Government Association, MCTV and is the president of the Residence Hall Association.
Colleen is a senior at Merrimack College majoring in Communication and Media and is double minoring in Film Studies and Digital Media. This is her third year writing for the beacon, and second year acting as the Beacon-MCTV liaison. Colleen is also the president of MCTV, and works to create content for both organizations. She hopes to contribute fun videos for social media, and write corresponding stories. Colleen hopes to work in digital media upon graduation, either behind the scenes or potentially in front of the camera.
Melissa Zimdars is an Assistant Professor in Communication and Media. She started advising The Beacon in the Spring of 2017. She has a Ph.D. in Communication Studies, an M.A. in Media Studies, and B.A. in Journalism.
