New Austin Hall Renovations On Hold

Get excited- Austin Hall is getting a shiny new addition. The renovation entails a student union space that can be utilized by all Merrimack students. This renovated facility will house a bowling alley, a computer lab, a golf simulator, a place to eat with inside and outside seating, a big-screen TV, and access to the chapel.

However, don’t get too excited- the project is on hold for now. According to Dean of Student Outcomes and Success, Peter Ellard, the construction was put on hold to accommodate the daily COVID testing. Jeffrey Dogget, who is the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Merrimack College, said it will start back up again sometime in the spring. He also reiterated the fact that the money for this new addition was used for testing. Replica pictures of what it will look like can be found on the fence surrounding the construction site.

It is definitely worth all of the hype. The fact that it’s near the front of the school works well with proximity to academic halls, the welcome center, and some residential areas. This will also give a good impression for prospective students and their families as something exciting to look forward to during their time at Merrimack.

The new expansion is something that members of the Merrimack community are very proud of and excited about having. It’s a cornerstone of the growth of the college and goes to show how the school is one of the fastest-growing in the country and the region. The anticipation will be even greater once COVID goes away, and it will be sort of a celebratory event to mark the end of an era and the start of a new one.
