Friday, Sept. 30 marked the day for the groundbreaking of the North Campus Academic Pavilion followed by a fun-filled evening at Merrimack’s annual Block Party.

The Block Party is a long held tradition at Merrimack. Every year in September it brings the community together for free food, good music, and fun activities, along with some freebies. The party lasted from 5-9p.m. and the night ended with a round of fireworks.

Typically, the Block Party is held in the Sak’s parking lot, but this year was held in the MPR. Whoopie pie and empanada trucks were located outside along with the Mindfulness Club who encouraged students to tie dye t-shirts.

Other student organizations had tables set up inside the MPR with various activities. The Greek Life on campus each had a table, TKE had corn hole competitions, TPA had a nacho bar, and ZTA had cupcake decorating. Other clubs offered sand art, key chains, and henna tattoos.

Sodexo catered the event, serving barbecue foods like chicken, pulled pork, and sides along with baked goods and watermelon for dessert.

“My favorite part of the Block Party was making cards with Love Your Melon for the children’s hospital,”  said student CJ Reusch,  who also enjoyed the beer garden.
