Farewell to Sara Hicks

You take the elevator to the 3rd floor of the Sakowich center. You get out and head right through both sets of double doors and keep walking. You come to the second door on the left and that is the residence life office. Inside the office are people who keep the college operating, but the Director of Residence Life seems to be an unfamiliar face. That is what will happen at the start of next semester.

Merrimack College is in the search for a new Director of Residence Life as Sara Hicks, the current Director of Residence Life, gets ready to leave the college. Sara Hicks, originally from Worcester, MA, has worked for Merrimack College for five and a half years, first as an Assistant Director of Residence Life and then becoming the Director of Residence Life. Prior to her career at Merrimack she spent her college days as a resident assistant (RA) for three years here at Merrimack. After graduating with a BA in Sociology, Hicks proceeded to study higher education, as she obtained her masters at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Sara Hicks originally planned to be an elementary school teacher, but found a spot for residence life in her heart.

When December 19th hits, Sara Hicks is embarking on a journey to “take some time before I spend too much time in (residence life) to explore different options of what my life calling will be”, said Hicks.

“Leaving is very bittersweet for me; I am very excited to embark on this next chapter in my life but sad to leave amazing students and colleagues behind. I will miss the amazing people who make up the Merrimack community. I’ve been blessed during my time to work with such great people and I enjoy coming to work every day because I get to work with them,” Hicks responded when asked if she had any departing words for the college.
