On Tuesday night, President Hopey and other Merrimack leaders hosted their “Pizza With The President” event for the 2025 Fall Semester. This occasion is organized by SGA (Student Government Association) for students to speak directly with the President and other important figures of the college about current events, developments on projects, and issues that need resolving. This is a recap of everything that was discussed during the event.
Sports
- A new job posting is being created for a Softball coach after Elaine Schwager’s departure in September.
- A new space is being discussed for the Women’s Club Hockey Team to provide more security for their equipment.
- A potential payroll for MCTV’s volunteers filming for Merrimack Athletics is being discussed.
Programs And Courses
- The Chemistry Sequence for Biology Majors on the Pre-Med track is being adjusted to offer classes for Freshmen.
- The return of the Academic Committee’s Free 5th Course is being considered.
- More Majors and Minors will eventually be added in the future, and an Astronomy minor is being discussed as a possibility.
Clubs And Organizations
- The Humanities Club is in the process of completing its registration.
- Funding Expansions are in the works for cultural organizations like the Black Student Association (BSA).
- President Hopey has been invited to attend more events that highlight the culture of Merrimack.
- A potential guest speaker is being considered to speak to the Venture Capital Club.
Dining
- Sparky’s Place will receive better quality of life control for its eggs and its breakfast menu.
- A Gluten Free facility is in the works and is scheduled to open next fall. In addition, more Gluten Free options are being added by the Dining Committee.
- Rice is being added as an option to the Stir Fry station which doubles as another Gluten Free option.
- The Turkey BLT is OFFICIALLY BACK!
- Non-Red Meat is being distinctively separated in Sparky’s.
- Fruit will now have more options throughout all meal cycles across campus.
- More options are being added to the Omelette Station at Sparky’s.
- More dining locations (such as Sal’s Pizza) are being added to reduce overcrowding across campus.
Campus Life And Services
- You can now change your preferred name and pronouns which will be displayed on campus accounts via MyMack.
- Seamus Harreys is currently working with International Students to solve an issue with Double Billing.
- An extensive cleaning for Mendel Pond outside of Palmisano Hall is in the works.
- A foot bridge for Royal Crest is in the early stages of development.
- More parking options are being considered to reduce incoming traffic and limited spaces.
- McQuade Library now offers Asus Lunar Laptops that students can rent.
- Commuter Inclusivity and Accomodations will become a bigger priority.
- Low Tables will be installed in the Commuter Lounge for accessibility.
We’re looking forward to seeing these changes here on campus, and another Pizza With The President will be held during the 2026 Spring Semester.
