On Nov. 8, the world gathered around their television screens to watch the historic 2016 presidential election. Who was going to win? It looked to be either Donald Trump, a businessman with no political experience, or the first female presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Trump came out as victor with 290 Electoral College votes to Clinton’s 228.
“I believe the president will do what he thinks is best for the country, but I fear his vision doesn’t encompass all Americans,” said junior Chris Lazarek.
After finding out who won the election, many Americans have rioted throughout the nation and protested outside of Trump Tower in New York City.
Many Americans, including students at Merrimack, believe that rioting across the nation will not do any good. Many have mentioned that there have been times when Americans did not like Obama, but they still got on with their lives.
“I think both candidates have their own issues, but in since Trump won, people should try to start to be open-minded and just hope for the best,” said junior Shannon Kenneally.
Although many are upset about the election’s results, Americans ultimately voted for Donald Trump.
“There must be some good in him that our generation doesn’t see,” said junior Mackenzie Rice.
