Merrimack College recently welcomed Daymond John, entrepreneur and star investor from ABC’s “Shark Tank,” to campus.
John, who created the $15 billion dollar industry, FUBU, a clothing industry that targets the hip-hop market, started his company out of his mother’s basement in Queens, New York. It took off, showing him and others that they can make anything happen. In fact, his mother always told him, “You understand that responsibility is something that can’t be taken it must be given.”
Proving to be more successful, John was also named Presidential ambassador for global entrepreneur in 2015 and joined President Obama on a trip to Kenya and Cuba.
While speaking at the college, John gave business and entrepreneurial tips, stories of his life, and how he came to be successful. For those wanting to start a business, John said, “Before, you can begin take inventory. Your assets are what feed you. Your liabilities are what you eat.”
Many students were excited for John to come to Merrimack and speak. “Having Daymond speak on campus was beneficial for everyone that went,” said junior Ty Cameron. “He gave important tips about life and business. I am a big fan of “Shark Tank” and it was great that Merrimack was able to get him here for the students.”
