Dancing With the Stars kicked off its 30th season with a bang, and the partner dynamic is looking a little different this time around. For the first time in DWTS history, there is a same-sex partner duo in the competition.
Pop star Jojo Siwa, 18, recently came out as being part of the LQBTQ+ community earlier this year. The competitive dance show celebrated her coming out by incorporating a same-sex partnership into the show. Her goal going into the show has been to inspire LGBTQ youth, giving them a sense of belonging and happiness.
“I’ve never really watched Dancing With the Stars before, but I am this season because it’s nice to see a show be so inclusive and go against the norms of a traditional dance show,” says Costello, 19, a member of the LGBTQ community.
