Merrimack’s Black Students Association (BSA) held their first major event for the Fall 2026 semester on September 17th. BSA’s mission statement is to provide a welcoming environment for students on campus and to encourage the celebration of black culture. The organization’s positive impact and their ability to foster campus-wide inclusivity was honored at the Spring 2026 Lead Awards with the award for Unsung Student Organization of the Year.
BSA’s Field Day featured participants being split into four teams to compete in various activities. Throughout the night, the Blue, Green, Pink and Yellow Teams took part in fun and competitive challenges. Students went head to head in an adrenaline fueled obstacle course, inflatable soccer, potato sack racing and bungee runs. In addition, multiple vendors were present serving food to students including Cookie Monstah as well as Ja Patty, an authentic Caribbean restaurant with a Jamaican cuisine originating from Providence, Rhode Island.
The event was a monumental success and delighted BSA’s E-Board. President Deborah Ndayisaba shared her satisfaction by saying “I think it turned out really well. Everyone looks to be having fun. And you know what? That means I did my job. That’s all that matters.” Similarly, Secretary Mira deJesus was delighted to see the enthusiasm surrounding the event.“I think my favorite part is seeing everybody kind of act like middle schoolers again. Just standing in line, waiting to get assigned to their team. Everybody’s so giddy.” deJesus said.
Field Day is just the beginning for the Black Students Association, as the group has numerous events planned for both the Fall and Spring. There’s a lot to look forward to, so be on the lookout for all of the fun events that BSA has in store for the rest of the semester!
