Merrimack men’s basketball senior Anthony Barry scored his 1,000th career point on Jan. 30 against visiting Southern Connecticut State University.

Barry achieved the milestone with a three-pointer in the second half, becoming the 43rd Warrior to score 1,000 points.

“1,000 points is a great accomplishment for Anthony,” said coach Joe Gallo. “Anthony was able to reach this milestone through consistency. He has averaged double figures in points from his sophomore year until now.”

Barry also just became the 14th player in Merrimack College history to record both 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.I haven’t always been the most skilled player on the court, and I sure haven’t been the biggest on the court,” said Barry. “But I think there’s something to be said about having a motor and wanting it more than the other player, regardless of size or skill. I pride myself on my work ethic and my desire to outwork every player that I’m up against.”

This is the third straight year a Warrior has scored 1,000 points for their career. Barry joins former teammates Gelvis Solano ’16, J.T. Strickland ’16, and Troy Hammel ’16 in the 1,000-point club. “Playing alongside Gelvis, J.T., and Troy was great because they demanded a lot of attention on the defensive end,” said Barry. “Having multiple scorers on the court called for a lot of one-on-one coverage, and we were all able to capitalize and utilize our abilities to score.”

For Barry, this will be a moment to remember. “There have been so many great players that have gone through this program, and to be amongst some of the best scorers this program has had is truly humbling and a complete honor.”
