On Tuesday, September 15th. The Belonging for Asians Organization (B.A.O) held their first event of the year in collaboration with the Office of Wellness Education. Founded in 2024, B.A.O is an inclusive community highlighting Asian American awareness and highlights the importance of Asian culture. The group’s first major event of the year was a night market where students could get food and beverages from local vendors. Present at the event were authentic Taiwanese Bubble Tea from Long Cha and Vietnamese-American treats from Lu’s Café & Bakery. The Wellness Team also had their own station where eventgoers could create their own customizable zen garden using sand and other decorative materials.

B.A.O’s E-Board consists of active members of the Merrimack community who each strive to create an inclusive and positive environment with their events. “We wanted to make it known on campus that we’re here for students of Asian background and not who want to be welcomed within our community so they can experience a taste of Asia.” said President Tess DeJesus. Vice President Saket Damle had a similar outlook saying “I was just so happy to see so many people come here, so many people having a great time. It really warms my heart.”

Publicist Ava O’Rourke gave some strong advice in regards to planning a large-scale event saying “I think a lot of dedication and teamwork goes into it with the E-Board. So make sure you’re communicating with each other and doing your best to just spread the word.” Eventgoers at the Night Market were blown away by the event’s welcoming demeanor. One attendee said “This was an amazing turnout. The vibe and community, a lot of people here are very nice, very kind, amazing food. Definitely great vibes.”

Previously, B.A.O was honored at the Merrimack College L.E.A.D Awards for New Student Organization of the Year in 2024 and the Blue and Gold Awards for their Lunar New Year celebration. With the Fall 2026 semester in full swing, the Belonging for Asians Organization has big plans going forward and continues to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone on campus.
