6 years ago, Avengers: Endgame first released to the masses and took the world by storm. The billion dollar blockbuster was the culmination of 10 years of buildup and brought Marvel’s Infinity Saga to a close. But now, the film has returned to theaters with an extended cut featuring brand new scenes to tie in to the upcoming release of Avengers: Doomsday. This is every single new scene in Avengers: Endgame Encore explained. (Big Spoiler Warning!)
Extended Ending
Encore’s Doomsday teases begin right before the credits roll. After returning the Infinity Stones back to their original points in time, Steve Rogers chooses to travel back to the past to reunite with Peggy Carter. As the two share a dance, we hear a knock at the door. Peggy answers the door to find Loki, who says that he can “I can help you. Both of you.” This is the same Loki that we see earlier in the film who uses the Tesseract to escape the Avengers. This version of the character is the star of the Loki TV series, which was the first MCU project to fully delve into the concept of the multiverse. The God of Mischief turned God of Stories will play a very important role in Doomsday, and it’s been theorized that Steve travelling to the past to be with Peggy is the driving force behind the threat of the Incursions.
First Mid-Credits Scene
Bruce Banner records a video diary within an underground bunker. Following the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day where Savage Hulk was brought back out by Jean Grey’s telepathic manipulation, Bruce is now in isolation where he mentions that he’s working on developing a new and more effective gamma inhibitor. Suddenly, Doctor Doom appears in front of Bruce and says that he is here to “collect” him. The footage begins to glitch as we hear the sounds of the Hulk struggling. The camera cuts back as we see green magic on the ground before the scene ends. This scene emphasizes what Doom is truly capable of as he comes from the country of Latveria and is proficient in magic and sorcery. Additionally, this scene confirms that the Hulk will most likely return in Avengers: Doomsday in some form.
Second Mid-Credits Scene
At the TVA (Time Variance Authority) headquarters, Mobius enters the office and meets with Ouroboros (O.B) and Casey. Mobius is warned of an incursion between Earth-10005 and Earth-1127. Earth-10005 is specifically the universe where the 20th Century Fox X-Men reside. Both Earths are shown on the monitors to be attacking each other as they begin to collide. This escalates as a second incursion is detected, followed closely by a third. Soon enough, hundreds of incursions are being detected all across the Multiverse. O.B turns to Mobius and says “The Multiverse is Collapsing.” This scene takes place after the events of the second season of Loki following his ascension to the role of the God of Stories.
Post-Credits Tease
Finally, there’s a small glimpse at the very end of the film. In the original cut of Avengers: Endgame, there weren’t any post credits scenes. Instead, there was a small easter egg featuring a clanging sound. This sound is the same one heard when Tony Stark is forging his first Iron Man suit in the character’s first solo film. Now, that same sound is used to show Doctor Doom forging his armor in three quick flashes. With Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU to play Victor Von Doom, this tease symbolizes the idea that there’s some sort of connection between Tony Stark and Doctor Doom. All of these teases will be answered when Avengers: Doomsday releases on December 18th.
