Will the Jedi End?

It is less than one month away until the premiere of the new Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Episode VIII-The Last Jedi. The Last Jedi will be the ninth installment in the Star Wars franchise and the 8th movie in the three part trilogy. The new movie comes out in theaters on Thursday, December 14th. Fans of of the series will be coming out of the woodworks when the premiere date arrives.

The last installment of the trilogy saw new and old faces on the same screen in another epic. Harrison Ford returned to star as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher came back to play General Leia, and Mark Hamill returning as Luke Skywalker. The movie also introduced three new many characters. Daisy Ridley played Rey, John Boyega played Finn and Adam Driver played Kylo Ren.The events in The Last Jedi are going to pick up just after the last events of the Force Awakens. In the Force Awakens a New organization called the First Ordered is developed. It was formed after the fall of the Galactic empire. The film follows the lives of Rey, Finn and Kylo and their interactions.

The Force Awakens helped to reboot the famous franchise after the prequel trilogy came out. The prequel trilogy was not received well by neither critics nor fans. With their being a lot of plot holes in the writing and some very ill received characters. One of those characters being the annoying Jar Jar Binks. With really only the third movie in that trilogy, Revenge of the Sith, being received well. The Force awakens introduced some fresh new characters, along with bringing back some of the old favorites.

The special effects in were phenomenal, but they didn’t over power the movie so that they were the main thing focused on. The action sequences were great, they reminded you of the ones from the originally trilogy, just a little updated and with better quality.

The characters were all lovable and or hateable, but in a movie that is about the light and the dark side that is a good thing. Their was a little bit of worry about Harrison Ford being to old to play Han Solo again, but he delivered a great performance with the same charm from the original. With him having a memorable moment with Kylo Ren at the end of the movie. (If you have seen it you know what happens)

One of the only things that critics seemed to have a problem with was that the plot seemed to be recycled from the original movie, A New Hope. The critics noted the similarities between the two plots, a new Force user getting trained and discovering their own way. With both movies ending with the main character going to a distant planet to train. And Han Solo escorting the main character all over the galaxy.

Now with The Last Jedi coming out the story continues. From the trailer you can infer a few things about the upcoming movie. It looks like Rey will be training with Luke on the planet that he has been on for the past few years. She could be the “Raw Power” that is hinted at in the trailer. Their should be a more prominent for supreme leader Snoke. Another battle between Rey and Kylo Ren seems to be in hand. One of the biggest things that is hinted about is what is going to happen to Leia. SPOILER. It looks like Kylo Ren, who is Leia’s son, might kill his mother by blowing up the ship she is on.The Last Jedi’s plot will pick up right where the Force Awakens plot ended. The Force Awakens last scene ended with Rey finding Luke on his abandoned planet and giving him his lightsaber that he lost years ago.

Trivia Question: Who are the only two characters to appear in every single Star Wars movie including Rogue One? Answer will be in the next issue of The Beacon.
